The relationship between Evgeni Plushenko and violinist Edvin Marton is not surprising. Both are legendary singletons, and together they are nothing short of brilliant.
As the musician is set to begin a new tour September 28, 2006 in Bucharest, the skater prepares for a new season. At least 12 of Plushenko's nearly 50 gold medals have been won while he skated to Marton's music. The violinist is no less a medal winner himself, winning twice the World Violin Competition. The tools that make up this dynamic duo are equally famous. Evgeni's skates jumped him into figure skating history books with his quad-triple-triple combination. Edvin's 4 million dollar Stradivarius violin dates from 1698 and is on a lifetime loan to him from the Bank of Switzerland. "Love, virtuosity and speed" is how Marton defined his Bucharest show. Evengi's fan pages use these terms often to describe the skater's as well. They are planning another on-ice performance together, according to Bucharest Daily News. There will be a rink erected in Dubai for the Kings on Ice skating show that will feature Plushenko and other Olympic medalists. While Plushenko has elected to bypass the 2006 Grand Prix Series, he is slated to win - oops, I mean: attend - the European in January & World Championships in March. If you can't wait until then, attend the Hilton Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular in Portland October 28, 2006, or watch the teasers showcasing the frenetic friends at ArtOnIce.com.
