Holiday Skating in SacramentoRink time in the Capital City area is easy to come by this Christmas season.There is plenty of ice to go around for skaters in the Sacramento area this winter. Choose from Skatetown, Iceland, and Westfield Downtown Plaza Ice Rink.
SkatetownRoseville’s Skatetown is the state-of-the-art facility serving the Capital City Figure Skating Club and hockey association. The only two regulation-sized rinks in the area provide flexible public skating times. Take part in hockey or skating lessons, broom ball, speed skating, synchronized skating, and sled hockey. Visit their website for drop-in times. They also have a video arcade, snack shack and pro shop. General admission for public skating is $7.00 for kids age 12 and under & seniors age 55 and above. Adults are $7.50, in addition to $2.50 for skate rental. Rent a sled for $10, or attend Wednesday Night Family Night for $8.00 – that includes skate rental. Helmets are available to use for free. Discount cards are available for frequent skaters. Skatetown Winter Public Skating Schedule: Sunday 1-5pm, Monday-Friday 9am-noon & 2pm-5pm, Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30pm, Friday & Saturday nights from 7-10pm. (Friday Night Meltdown has a live DJ and light show.) Skatetown hosts holiday shows and competitions, and each rink has seating for up to 200 spectators. IcelandIn addition to broomball, birthday parties and private parties, Iceland offers group lessons for everybody on Saturdays at 11am. Freestyle sessions with private coaching are offered Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 and Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 and 5:15-6:45pm for $12. Ice Dance classes are on Sundays from 11am-1pm and cost $12 also. Iceland Public Skating Schedule: Monday-Friday 12 noon to 5pm, Saturday 1:30-5pm and 7pm-10pm, Sunday 1:30-3:30 and 6-8pm, Tuesday nights from 8-10pm, Thursday nights from 7-9:30pm, and Friday nights from 7-10pm. To confirm times, call the Iceland box office at (916) 925-3121 or the main office at (916) 925-3529. Children need just $6 so skate. Adult admission is $7, and skate rental is $2. Sunday and Tuesday night sessions are only $6 for all ages, skate rental included. Iceland is located in the heart of Sacramento, next to their parent, the American Ice Company, one of the oldest ice plants in California. Their address is 1430 Del Paso Blvd, a half block away from Arden Way. Ask one of the rink attendants for a tour of the plant, and watch one of their many ice carvers at work. Seasonal Outdoor RinkSkate in the open air every day of the week on Sacramento’s Westfield Downtown Plaza Ice Rink Ice skating here is weather permitting and runs from November until January 15th. Nothing says: “The holidays are here!” like Sacramento’s only outdoor rink. Stroll beneath Christmas lights and jingle bells in Old Sacramento, then jaunt to the rink in the park at 7th & K Streets accessed via I-5 then J Street.
